Dr. Shawn Hanlon joins the Titan Family
After a competitive national search for a new tenure-track faculty member, Shawn Hanlon, PhD, ATC has agreed to join the Titan Family as an Assistant Professor in the MSAT program and Department of Kinesiology.
Dr. Hanlon received his bachelor's degree in Athletic Training (2012) from Rowan University (NJ), master’s degree in Sports Medicine (2014) from the University of Delaware, Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, and PhD (2022) in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware, Department of Physical Therapy. Prior to joining CSUF, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Interdisciplinary Movement Science Lab at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine, working primarily on clinical trials for increasing physical activity in Veterans with lower limb amputation. Dr. Hanlon's expertise is in sports and orthopedic medicine and diagnostic ultrasound assessment related to lower extremity musculoskeletal injury. His PhD focused on identifying patient subgroups with Achilles tendinopathy and his work has been directly translated to clinical practice to inform individualized treatment approaches targeting patient’s individual impairments and limitations across the lifespan.
Dr. Hanlon has been a certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist for 10+ years, primarily in NCAA collegiate athletics. He has provided AT services at every level of sport spanning youth to professional, and Olympic and Special Olympic athletes. As the principal investigator of the CSUF Tendon Research Group, his research aims to improve the lives of individuals who suffer from tendon injury by developing individualized treatment approaches and to investigate the impact of tendon injury sustained during adolescence on lifelong tendon health and identify risk factors for injury in adulthood. His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Athletic Trainers' Association Research and Education Foundation, and the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association.
