The university catalog is a comprehensive source for current information on academic programs, policies, degree requirements, procedures and course offerings. Each student follows the catalog for the academic year they were first admitted, known as their "catalog year". Current and archived catalogs can be accessed at: https://catalog.fullerton.edu/.

Criminal Background Checks
Cal State Fullerton does not require background checks for admission to the MSAT program. However, individual clinical sites may require them. The MSAT program will not make clinical assignments according to a student’s ability to pass a particular clinical site’s background check should one be required. The student must also recognize that a history of legal or academic discipline may have implications for their eligibility to sit for the Board of Certification exam and receive the ATC credential after completion of the MSAT program and whether they can meet state licensing or credentialing requirements.
Immunization requirements
All MSAT students are required to comply with Cal State University Systemwide
Executive Order 803, including the Academic Program and Fieldwork or Clinical Placement Requirements and Additional Authorized Discretionary Requirements.
Because athletic training students gain clinical experiences in a variety of healthcare settings and are at an increased risk of exposure, students are required to follow the same requirements as the Student Athletes per the CSUF Student Wellness website: https://www.fullerton.edu/titanHealth/immunizationlist/studentathlete.html
Visit TitanHEALTH to view all immunization requirements, upload instructions, and exemption documents.
Although the Program will attempt to place students who are not vaccinated at a clinical site that does not require vaccines recommended by the CDC, it cannot guarantee an alternative placement. If there is no clinical site available, those students that are impacted may not be able to fulfill the clinical requirements of the Program, which may delay their graduation and/or lead to their removal from the Program for failure to complete the requirements for graduation.
Transfer Policy
Our curriculum is specifically designed to address our educational philosophy and meet our program goals. Therefore, it is difficult to match up the particular content, coursework, and sequence to integrate a transfer student into an existing cohort. Therefore, we do not accept transfer students, nor do we accept transfer coursework from outside Cal State Fullerton.
Matriculation requirements
Cal State Fullerton: https://admissions.fullerton.edu/newly-admitted-students/accept-offer.html
If the incoming student has not received their undergraduate degree and/or had pre-requisite courses that were in progress or planned at the time of application, they must submit transcripts to the MSAT Director upon completion of the academic term in which the last pre-requisite course is completed. Transcripts will be reviewed to verify successful completion (grade of "C" or better) before registering for MSAT coursework. If all pre-requisite coursework has not been completed by the first day of Summer I coursework, the student will not be able to enroll in the MSAT program and must re-apply the following year. Admission is not guaranteed upon re-application.
Grade Policies
https://www.fullerton.edu/graduate/current/policies.html?itemID=4b8e-9ad9-d31e45
A grade-point average (GPA; grade points divided by units attempted) of at least 3.0 is required for graduation with a graduate degree. This grade-point average applies to all courses included in the MSAT curriculum. If a course is repeated, both grades are used in calculating the student’s grade-point average. Courses cannot be added to the study plan to raise the GPA.
Each course on the MSAT study plan (with the exception of courses taken during the Summer 1 session*) must be completed with a “B-” or better. Failure to achieve a B- or higher in any course disqualifies the student from progressing through the MSAT curriculum until the course is retaken and successfully completed. If a course is repeated, both grades are used in calculating the student’s grade-point average. Retaking a course will result in a one-year delay in graduation.
* The minimum grade for courses taken during the first Summer term is a "B". If a student does not achieve at least a B, they will not have to retake the course but will have to enroll in an additional 3-unit course during the Fall I semester in order to meet the 58-unit graduation requirement.
Final course grades are based on the following scale:

MSAT Technical Standards
The Cal State Fullerton MSAT (“the program”) is a rigorous program that places specific demands on the athletic training students that differ from a typical academic program. The program prepares graduates to enter a variety of employment settings and to render care to a wide spectrum of individuals engaged in physical activity. The MSAT Technical Standards establish the essential qualities considered necessary for students admitted to this program to achieve the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors expected of an entry-level athletic trainer, as well as meet the expectations of the program's accrediting agency (CAATE). All students must meet the following abilities and expectations. If a student is unable to meet these Technical Standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, the student will not successfully advance through the program.
Each candidate must demonstrate their ability to meet following MSAT Technical Standards:
- the mental capacity to assimilate, analyze, synthesize, integrate concepts, and problem solve to formulate assessment and therapeutic judgments and be able to distinguish abnormal deviations.
- sufficient postural and neuromuscular control, sensory function, and coordination to perform appropriate physical examinations using accepted techniques; and accurately, safely, and efficiently use equipment and materials during the assessment and treatment of patients.
- the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and colleagues, including individuals from different cultural and social backgrounds; this includes, but is not limited to, the ability to establish rapport with patients and communicate judgments and treatment information effectively. Students must be able to understand, write and speak the English language at a level consistent with competent professional practice.
- the ability to record the physical examination results and a treatment plan clearly and accurately.
- the capacity to maintain composure and continue to function well during periods of high stress.
- the perseverance, diligence, and commitment to complete the program as outlined and sequenced.
- flexibility and the ability to adjust to changing situations and uncertainty in clinical situations.
- affective skills and appropriate demeanor that relate to professional education and quality patient care.
Cal State Fullerton will evaluate each student who states they can meet program’s Technical Standards with accommodation and confirm that the stated condition qualifies as a disability under applicable laws. If a student states they can meet the Technical Standards with accommodation, then the University will determine whether it agrees that the student can meet the Technical Standards with reasonable accommodation. This includes a review a whether the accommodations requested are reasonable, taking into account whether accommodation would jeopardize clinician/patient safety, or the educational process of the student or the institution, including all coursework and clinical experiences deemed essential to graduation.
It should be noted that compliance with Cal State Fullerton MSAT Technical Standards does not guarantee a student’s eligibility for the BOC certification exam.
Students must attest to their ability to meet the Technical Standards, either with or without accommodations upon matriculation.
